Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.
In these pages, she describes what it was like to run against Donald Trump, the mistakes she made, how she has coped with a shocking and devastating loss, and how she found the strength to pick herself back up afterwards. With humor and candor, she tells readers what it took to get back on her feet—the rituals, relationships, and reading that got her through, and what the experience has taught her about life. She speaks about the challenges of being a strong woman in the public eye, the criticism over her voice, age, and appearance, and the double standard confronting women in politics.
She lays out how the 2016 election was marked by an unprecedented assault on our democracy by a foreign adversary. By analyzing the evidence and connecting the dots, Hillary shows just how dangerous the forces were that shaped the outcome, and why Americans need to understand them to protect our values and our democracy in the future.
The election of 2016 was unprecedented and historic. What Happened is the story of that campaign and its aftermath—both a deeply intimate account and a cautionary tale for the nation.
What’s the Hype?
We all know that the 2016 Presidential election was the first of its kind. Regardless of political party, I don’t think anyone expected the outcome that we received. Of course, no one expected it quite as much as Hillary Clinton. In her latest book, ‘What Happened’, Hillary spills all the tea – from what went on during her political past, the beginning of the campaign trail, to the emails that we heard about every day. Even if you aren’t a fan of Hillary, I think this book is a must read to get the answer that we’ve all been asking. What happened?
What Did I Like About It?
This was the first book that I’ve read from Hillary, and I was actually surprised at how great of a storyteller she is. From beginning to end, she creates a vivid picture of every experience she faced as if you were right along with her. Considering her reputation, she seemingly appeared very open and honest on her account as well. Several times throughout the book, she admitted to different mistakes she’s made in her political career, how it affected her, and what she’d do to change it if she had a second chance. There’s something intriguing and special about personal growth and the fact that Hil laid it all on the table, made this read very enjoyable!
Should You Read It?
Like I’ve stated before; regardless of your political party and regardless of whether you like Hillary or not, this memoir is a must-read. Learning about her hopes for the country, reading her presidential victory speech [that she never got to say out loud], getting an inside peek on what it’s like being a woman in politics, how she felt about the email scandal, and a few jokes sprinkled throughout, are all covered in her book!
