sharing my hashtag strategy and sharing 120 hashtags to use for your blog or business - 50 shades of raee dot com

Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags! The bane of my existence! Lol.

I can’t even lie to ya’ll, I hate hashtags! I hate trying to come up with them, hate having to use them, just hate everything! Unfortunately, they’re essential in increasing engagement on your social media and increasing followers – which we all want right?

Now I’m not a hashtag expert, but I have seen slow growth by utilizing the tips I’m sharing with you today. In addition to those tips, I’m also sharing over 100 hashtags I have used and currently use in my pics that you can use too!

Where Do You Use Hashtags?!

After Instagram’s most controversial update last year, there’s been a lot of conversation about where to put hashtags. Do they go in the comments or do they go under your photo in your main caption? I’ve personally tried both and to be honest, I personally don’t see too much of a big difference. However, after additional research, this is what the experts are saying:

  • Hashtags in the comment section = more engagement/comments with your post.
  • Hashtags in your caption = more IG profile views [with potential new followers]

I’ve seen several bloggers and influencers use both at the same time, so depending upon your intended outcome, I’d experiment and see which way -if not both- gives you the most bang for your buck.

Which Hashtags Should You Use?!

With every update Instagram puts out, comes a new hashtag strategy that you have to create. Regardless of your niche, the biggest hashtag tip I can offer is to start big and go small. What I mean by that is to add high ranking hashtags [hashtags with a lot of tagged posts] and work your way incorporating more specific ones. A few of my favorite ones to use are:

#lifestyleblogger #bloggersofinstagram #houstonblogger #texasblogger #blackgirlswhoblog #browngirlbloggers #htxblogger #50shadesofraee #instabloggers #bossbabe #bloggerbabe #lifestyleblogger

For me, I start big with my hashtags like #houstonbloggers [775.

Then I get more specific and include hashtags that are relevant to my niche and my post. If I’m wearing a pink dress from BooHoo and I have braids in my post about blogging essentials, my hashtags would include: #plussizedresses #pinksummerdresses #boohoostyle #naturalhairstyles #houstonbraids #boxbraidsstyle #quarantinehairstyles #bloggingessentials

Remember your posts also tell a story, so if you’re wearing clothes or makeup, head to that brand’s page and see what their current hashtags are and use those hashtags. Another blogging tip is to search up a hashtag and see the corresponding hashtags that are associated with that particular hashtag you searched for.

A good rule of thumb is to keep a list of hashtags in the notes app of your phone so whenever you post, you can just copy and paste them to your caption/comments section. Just make sure that you MIX YOUR HASHTAGS UP!

A few hashtags to get you started depending on your niche.

Lifestyle: The good thing with a lifestyle niche is that it can literally be any and everything as it’s literally your lifestyle. Here are some examples:

#bloggerlifestyle #lifestyleblogger #bloggers4bloggers #lifestyleblogs #lifestyleguide #ontheblog #bloggerlife #lifestylecollective #behindthescenes #motivationalmondays #instablogger #bloggersgetsocial #bloggersociallife #lifestyleclothing #lifestyleaesthetic #adayinthelife

As an extra tip, remember to include your locations and special hashtags that relate to whatever is going on in your picture.

Food: Food hashtags are a little tricky because the same thing can be called something different. My biggest tip is to just make sure you tag the food and the location of the restaurant. If you’re eating at home, tag your home city and the food. Here are some examples:

#tacotuesdays #wingwednesdays #thirstythirsday #houstontacos #htxtacos #houstoneateries #noleftovers #foodielife #eatingforthegram #whatiatetoday #veganlife #vegansofinsta #vegansofIG #texasvegans #tacolife #cleaneating #traderjoeslife

Beauty: Just like with the other hashtag niches, with beauty, make sure you tag the type of makeup and the brand. Also, make sure you go to that brand’s website or social media page and see what hashtags they’re currently using and use them within your hashtags. Here are some examples:

#beauty #beautylife #skincaredarling #beautyhacks #muaofInsta #IGmakeup #greeneyelooks #beautyvlogger #colorpopme #instabeauty #naturalbeautyblogger #naturalista #4Chairstyles #quarantinehairstyles #wakeuptomakeup #beautyforbeginners

Fashion/Style: Make sure that you always TAG the brand/store that you’re wearing AND use their current hashtags in your hashtags. Here are some examples:

#fashionblogger #fashionlifestyle #ootdfashion #styleedits #outfitoftheday #outfitinspo #outfitinspiration #outfitspiration #instafashion #styleluxe #styleonabudget #fashionbloggers #fashionvloggers #houstonbloggers #htxblogger #fashiondaily #asosstyle #asseenonme #lookoftheday #boohoointhehouse #stayhomewithPLT #walmartstyles

Plus-Size/Body Positivity: Of course I’m big on body positivity and as a plus-size woman, I make sure to include hashtags to boost visibility. Here are some examples:

#plussizefashion #plussizestyles #curvygirls #thickgirlfashions #bbwstyle #goldenconfidence #plussizeblogger #plussizevlogger #bodypositivity #lovemycurves #fullfigured #plussizeoutfits #plussizeoutfits

I hope this post is helpful for you as you continue establishing your hashtag strategy. Remember to shoot for between 15-30 hashtags for each post to boost visibility and help increase engagement and followers. Once you create your general list of hashtags, keep them in a safe place like in your notes tab for easy access.
